Benjmark Surfboards was founded by Rebecca Benjamin in Santa Cruz, CA. In 2015, on summer break from CU Boulder and looking to stay involved in the skating and snowboarding scene Rebecca started working at Sonoma Coast Surf and Skate in Petaluma, CA and later at 2 Mile Surf Shop in Bolinas, CA. This job and the love of the ocean would later have Benjamin moving to Santa Cruz in 2018 to finish her degrees in Computational Mathematics and Legal Studies.
In 2020 when the pandemic hit and Benjamin was finishing her thesis on the Hydrodynamics of Surfboard she found herself spending hours at Almar Surf Works learning shaping and resin work from Michel Junod and Jon Henderson (Strive Surfboards). The fusion of mathematics, surfing and snowboarding blend together in Benjamin’s unique perspective of approaching the water and the crafts she creates. Since then, Benjamin has spent the years as head glasser and resin worker at Almar where she was given the nickname “The Laminatrix.”
This journey led to the creation of Benjmark Surf Co. The name honors her late brother, Jordan, who passed away in December 2020 due to cancer and the wolf logo depicts Jordan’s husky who passed shortly after him. The company is her life’s passion and she continues to shape and build surfboards in hopes to continue making her brother proud.
Benjamin applies fluid dynamics to surfboard design, to create the best surfcrafts for each individual.
